Meet Dr. Serginio Sylvain

Dr. Serginio Sylvain is a senior researcher with over two decades of experience in the asset management industry. He currently leads a team of financial analysts, data scientists, and software developers at Fidelity Investments, where he focuses on designing automated, systematic investment strategies. His work leverages graph technologies with applications across both equity and fixed income markets.

Prior to joining Fidelity, he was a partner at Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Company (GMO), where he developed statistical models for equities and built out the firm’s systematic credit investment platform. He has also held research and portfolio management roles at BlackRock, Putnam Investments, and Wellington Management.

Dr. Sylvain holds bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Economics from MIT, as well as a master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, with a specialization in asset pricing, financial mathematics, and macroeconomics. His research has explored cross-asset investment approaches, mathematical modeling, and the use of both structured and unstructured data to jointly predict stock and bond returns and develop quantitative strategies.

Originally from Haiti, he moved to the United States at the age of sixteen to pursue his education. He currently resides in the Greater Boston area with his spouse and their two children.
