Environmental management ‘23

Dismayed by the constant presence of trash in her neighborhood, Nel-Ange felt compelled to become a part of the solution. She believes that transforming Haiti’s future begins with changing how people think about and interact with their environment in a country that has been afflicted by a seemingly never-ending cycle of natural disasters and environmental mismanagement.

As a young leader in Haiti’s environmental sector, she is currently serving as an administrator at VALPLAST Haiti, a Port-au-Prince based organization focused on plastic transformation and recycling. In this role, she helps manage operations that convert waste into reusable materials, contributing directly to sustainable waste management in Haiti. She is passionate about addressing environmental challenges such as deforestation, pollution, and the lack of public awareness around ecological issues. Her work includes advocating for reforestation and educating communities about the long-term impact of environmental neglect.

While at the Haitian Educaiton and Leadership Program, she used her university years to cultivate leadership skills and explore innovative environmental solutions. Her efforts emphasize teamwork and collaboration—skills she developed and embodied both as a standout student and athlete. Nel-Ange envisions a cleaner, more sustainable Haiti powered by engaged and informed citizens. Through her professional and advocacy work, she is laying the groundwork for environmental and social transformation.
