Verlanda Alexandre
Psychology ‘20
Verlanda is a psychologist working as a Safeguarding Officer with Kids Alive International in her hometown of Cap Haïtien, where she provides critical mental health support to school-aged children and helps identify and respond to cases of child abuse.
Her training in psychology was strengthened by two internships she completed during university, both secured through H.E.L.P.’s career services program. These experiences gave her a significant professional advantage and helped her apply classroom learning in real-world settings. Though the H.E.L.P. services helped her stand out among her peers at university, Verlanda regularly shared her learnings with her classmates not enrolled at H.EL.P., embodying a spirit of leadership and collaboration.
At Kids Alive International, she is valued not only for her expertise in psychology but also for her initiative in community engagement and organizational support. She credits H.E.L.P. with equipping her to be an active and resourceful team member in every professional environment. Her colleagues often express surprise at the breadth of her abilities, from communication and reporting to organizing community activities. Verlanda embraces these moments with humility, knowing her preparation was intentional and hard-earned. Her work today is deeply rooted in a desire to give back and uplift others, a value she carries from her own journey and H.E.L.P.’s mission.
